him이 왜 Newton 인가요? 물론 프린키피아 쓴건 뉴턴이지만

문장의 어법이 이해가 안되요.

핼리는 영국의 물리학자 아이작 뉴턴 경의 이론에 큰 흥미를 가지게 되었으며, 그가 Principia를 쓰도록 encourage하였고, (핼리가) Principia를 1967년(??)에 직접 자비를 들여 출판하기도 했다.

encourage someone to do something: someone이 do something하도록 encourage하다.
Halley / was intrigued (...) / and encouraged him (=Newton) to write (...).
